The clubs Monte run to Stanthorpe and Salt Beach Kingscliff has been run and a magnificent time was had by all those who attended. 18 cars, 29 adults and 2 kids a great turn out of club members. All groups were represented and the most travelled being from Bundaberg. The run started from the car park of Bunnings Rocklea, at 7.00am, then onto Boonah where we had a a fuel and food top up before we headed to Queen Mary Falls on our way to Stanthorpe. The road was a beauty with lots of tight corners, steep climbs, water crossings and the scenery was spectacular. Once at the Falls we had smoko and some took the opportunity to do the 500mtr walk to have a look at Falls and reports were that they were spectacular.
After we left there the next stop was the Lavender Farm just out side of Stanthorpe where the ladies went shopping and the men stayed outside chatting. We arrived in Stanthorpe at around 2.30pm and were able to check into the Apple and Grape immediately. Dinner that night was catch and kill your own although most people dined at the local RSL. Next day was a free day for all except we had a lunch BBQ cooked for us by the Stanthorpe Classic car club with the help of the Tenterfield Classic car club. Thanks to Liz Hargrave and Gary Ellis. That evening we had dinner at the Stanny Brewhouse right next door to the motel. Here we had our first lot of fines and night 1 trivia.
Next day was onto Tenterfield but not before the cars were lined up for a photo shoot for the owner of the Motel. In Tenterfield we visited the historic rail museum and the Tenterfield Saddler shop before making our way to Casino for a fuel and food stop, then it was onto Nimbin. Nimbin is a town that has not changed a bit in the 40yrs since I was there. The special aroma's and the street sellers selling natural medicinal cures are still there. Then it was onto the Mantra Hotel at Salt Beach for the night. We dined at the Salt Bar and had a very nice 3 course meal, night 2 of the trivia more fines and the giving out of the trophies. Winner was Adrian Meston with the best combined score between the trivia night and a very low number of fines. Night 1 Trivia went to Alsion Rapisarda and Bill Imberger and the most fined went to Hayden and Nicole thanks mainly to their daughter Anna who assisted in watching people. A total of $261 was raised for the Care Kits for Kids Charity here in Brisbane, so well done to everybody.
Next day was the journey home and some people decided to leave early and others left and various stages of the drive home. In the end we had 5 cars at the finish line. It was a great weekend with lots of laughs and great drives on some great roads. I would like to thank everybody for their participation in the event and to finish the event with no incidents or accidents.
